Minister of Education, Glenys Hanna-Martin, is set to serve as Acting Prime Minister this week as Prime Minister Philip Davis heads to New York for the Bahamas Business and Investment Forum.

She first served in this capacity in 2021 when Prime Minister Davis traveled to Barbados. During that brief period, she expressed her respect for the gravity of the position, describing it as a "weighty and very serious" responsibility.

At the time, Hanna-Martin, who has been a member of Cabinet for several terms and is now in her fifth term as a Member of Parliament, acknowledged the importance of the moment. "Even though it’s just for a fleeting moment in time, it’s a hefty obligation, and I take it very seriously," she said. "I’ve been sitting in Cabinet now for several terms. This is my third term. This is an awesome experience. I haven’t had it yet. I’m going to go do it now, but I’m very respectful of where faith has brought me, and I’ll do my best.”

As Acting Prime Minister, Hanna-Martin will oversee the government’s day-to-day operations in Davis' absence, ensuring continuity of leadership during the week-long trip.

Prime Minister Davis’ visit to New York for the Bahamas Business and Investment Forum underscores his administration’s focus on attracting international investment. As the keynote speaker, Davis is expected to engage with global investors and key business leaders to discuss opportunities for economic growth in The Bahamas.
