One of the chefs employed at Government House has tested positive for COVID-19, raising questions on whether Governor General C. A. Smith was exposed to the virus.

The Office of The Governor- General has been shut down for the rest of the week for deep cleaning and sanitization due to the staff member testing positive.

Cabinet Office confirmed the positive case tonight in a statement but did not indicate when was the last time the chef was at work or cooked for the GG and whether Smith would be tested for the coronavirus.

It is also unclear whether the GG will enter self-quarantine.

The Office will reopen on Monday, according to Cabinet Office.

The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture building on John F. Kennedy Drive was also closed today after an employee there tested positive. The building is expected to reopen on Thursday.
