GB police shutdown big beach party on small cay

A big time beach party on a small cay opposite Sweetings Cay in Grand Bahama got busted up on Saturday afternoon after police on the island got a tip.

The beach party, which was packed with people, was in full swing shortly after 3pm today when officers of the Northeastern Division, Marine Section and Mobile Unit, travelled by boat to the small cay and snuck up on them.

When officers showed up, they met residents having a grand time dancing and splashing around. They couldn’t party on Grand Bahama beaches so they decided to take their festivities to the small cay.

However, the partygoers and their hosts got off easy. No one was arrested.

The hosts were warned of prosecution under the Emergency Orders and the crowd was made to disperse.

A monthlong lockdown on Grand Bahama was recently lifted. The island endured back-to-back two-week lockdowns due to a surge in coronavirus cases.

There are 547 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Grand Bahama. The most recent cases were four new cases on Saturday.

78 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed today. 63 on New Providence and 11 with location pending.

Though the Competent Authority announced they phased reopening of the economy, he has warned that restrictions would be imposed once again if Bahamians fail to adhere to covid orders and if cases continue to skyrocket.

Apparently the beach party crew didn’t get the memo.
