Fugitive charged with murder after two years on the run

A Bahamian man who allegedly fled the country after gunning down a taxi driver during a botched armed robbery has made his first court appearance.

Kyle Hepburn, 32, of Sea Breeze, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes charged with the attempted armed robbery and murder of Wilton Brown on June 9, 2018.

Hepburn didn’t have to enter a plea to the charges and was denied bail. Prosecutors will fast-track his case to the Supreme Court on December 8.

Police said that Hepburn was ambushed by a lone gunman as he and his children arrived at their home at Refuge Court in Hollywood Subdivision. A gunman who had followed Brown home, got out his car, and ordered him to hand over cash. The assailant didn’t get any money and he shot Brown multiple times in front of his children, killing him.

Brown’s heartbroken family wailed as police escorted his alleged killer to court.
