Former Member of Parliament for Acklins and Crooked Island, Dr. Franklyn Walkine, has died, leaving behind a legacy of public service, medical leadership, and entrepreneurship.

He also played a key role in developments at Lake View Cemetery, contributing to areas beyond medicine and politics that touched many lives.
In a statement, the Progressive Liberal Party reflected on his political career, noting his resilience and dedication following the party’s defeat in the 1992 General Election.
“After the devastating loss of the PLP in 1992, he continued to serve in Parliament until 1997, where he defended the people of Acklins and Crooked Island, his ancestral home, fearlessly,” the party said.
The PLP added that Dr. Walkine brought valuable lessons from his professional life into public service, describing him as forthright and matter-of-fact in his approach.
He was a respected leader in the medical field and served as head of the Medical Council, helping to guide standards and practices within the profession.
As a physician, Dr. Walkine was deeply loved by his patients, known especially for his compassion and attention to detail.
His commitment to excellence in healthcare, combined with his dedication to national and community service, has left a lasting impact across The Bahamas.
Dr. Walkine is remembered as a devoted public servant, a trailblazer in medicine, and a proud son of Acklins and Crooked Island.
