Former FNM Minister and husband released from custody

Former Minister of Youth, Sports And Culture Lanisha Rolle and her husband were both released from police custody on Tuesday night, according to well-placed sources.

Officers picked up the former Free National Movement (FNM) MP and her husband this afternoon to question them in connection with an ongoing investigation surrounding her tenure as minister under the Minnis Administration.

Rolle was taken to Cable Beach Police Station and her spouse was questioned at Airport Police Station.

The couple, who shares three children including a school-age daughter, were allowed to leave the police stations tonight but have been asked to return on Wednesday morning for further questioning.

Reports first surfaced in November that Rolle was the subject of a police investigation. However, she vigorously defended her record as minister despite the findings of an audit into her ministry.

“I resigned from Cabinet on February 23, 2021, and since then we are here today. I recall today the last official report disclosed that the accounts of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture were fairly maintained. I did not hear that another audit or any further investigation was going on, so we are where we are today,” Rolle said in November.

“I trust the police officers. I have served the country in that capacity for 11 years. I served in the Cabinet, I served as a Member of Parliament, I served as an officer of the court. I trust that the due process of the law will be followed, the rule of law will take its course and justice shall prevail, and I trust the Lord in all of that,” she added.

Rolle was the subject of speculation and scrutiny after she resigned from the Minnis cabinet. Months later, the Seabreeze MP was denied a FNM nomination ahead of the 2021 General Election.
