Former Cabinet Minister’s husband murdered

The husband of former Minister of Social Services Melanie Griffin was murdered tonight.

The Gallery has confirmed that former Bahamas Taxi Cab Union President Leon Griffin was shot in the head while standing in the driveway of his home in Winton Estates in Eastern New Providence tonight.

Griffin and her daughter were at home at the time but were not injured.

Police confirmed to the Gallery that he was shot to death.

Griffin was a strong and vocal advocate for the rights of taxi cab drivers who have long called for improvements to their industry.

His wife of decades was a member of Perry Christie’s cabinet from 2002 to 2007 and from 2012 to 2017.

The death of her husband comes as Griffin continues to mourn the loss of her mother and her sister.

May he Rest In Peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
