Chaos ahead of Eleuthera passport office opening

One day before the grand opening of the Passport Office on Eleuthera, residents who have been called to collect their documents are raising questions about the qualifications of political appointees hired to work at the office, located in the Administrator’s Office on Governor’s Harbour.

Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis will travel to Eleuthera on Friday for a big televised opening as the Free National Movement ramps up its election campaign. However, residents on the island are more concerned about the challenges that already exist within the new office.

It took residents up to two hours to collect their passports as the employees are clueless.

Two of the new employees, who were handpicked by the community’s member of parliament, are nearing retirement and have no experience.

The one government employee with training was not hired in this area to make space for FNM cronies.

As passports are sensitive documents, residents of the closeknit community are afraid of possible fraud and the leak of confidential information.
