Brothers accused of killing uncle

Two brothers accused of killing their uncle have been charged in the Magistrates Court.

Prosecutors say Albert Mortimer, 35, (blue Jacket) and 31-year-old Albrion Mortimer (tan jacket) fatally stabbed George Smith on July 30.

They allege that, an argument over ownership of a home at Lawton Street in Nassau Village escalated to murder when they allegedly attacked Smith with a cutlass around 7pm.

The brothers lived at the home following the death of their mother.

Smith had been freed from prison just four days prior to the fatal dispute.

The Mortimer brothers did not have to enter a plea to the murder charge when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

They were denied bail and return to court on December 7 for the presentation of a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.

The magistrate ordered that Albrion Mortimer receive a psychiatric evaluation while in custody at the request of his lawyer Keevon Maynard.

Maynard alleged the 31-year-old had experienced “diminished mental ability” following the recent deaths of his mother and another brother.
