6:42pm UPDATE: Families of killed men question police story

6:42pm UPDATE:

The family members of the three men shot and killed by police on Cowpen Road around 12pm today are questioning details provided by police about what transpired.

Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle said police were patrolling the area when they saw a white Honda Accord parked near Spikenard Cemetery where a burial was underway.

Police believe the men were targeting someone at the burial.

According to Rolle, one of the police officers approached the Honda but the driver sped off.

As police continued their patrol, Rolle said police came across the white vehicle once again on Cowpen Road. Police stopped and one of the officers approached the vehicle again.

Rolle says an occupant of the vehicle with dark tints opened fire on the officer who returned fire, killing all three men.

No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

Family members wailed and screamed as the covered bodies lay on the ground.

The angry relatives rejected details given by Rolle and said the men would never open fire on police.

Police say a gun was found in the car which was covered in bullet holes.
