Boxing Day traffic fatality on Abaco




An Abaco man died tragically shortly around midnight on Saturday during a traffic accident involving a Defense Force officer on S.C. Bootle Highway in the Leisure Lee area.


The head-on collision involved two vehicles: a white 2020 Nissan Frontier truck driven and owned by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force officer with two occupants and a Black Honda Fit carrying five persons.


A male passenger of the Honda Fit died on the scene.


The other four occupants of the Honda were also seriously injured and were airlifted to New Providence for further medical attention.


Last night’s accident came hours after a man and a woman were killed in a three-car collision on West Bay Street and Blake Road on New Providence on Christmas Day.


According to the police report, the driver of a Nissan March was travelling east along West Bay Street when the driver of a Honda Accord, which was travelling West, overtook a vehicle and collided with the Nissan March. The driver of a Chevy Malibu, which was also travelling west

on Bay Street, then crashed into the Nissan March.


In addition to the two people killed, four passengers were transported to hospital via ambulance. Their conditions are unknown.
