Prominent attorney Owen Wells was ratified Thursday night as the Progressive Liberal Party’s candidate for the newly created St. James constituency.

St. James, which includes portions of the Killarney and Golden Isles constituencies, is one of two new seats established by the Constituencies Commission ahead of the next general election.

Addressing party supporters following his ratification, Wells signaled his readiness to enter frontline politics, declaring, “St. James, I am ready.”

Wells explained that his decision to seek elected office was driven by a desire to apply the same skills that have defined his legal career to public service. He said he wants to use his experience and discipline in law to improve the lives of residents in the constituency.

“We live in a time of great challenges,” Wells said. “My generation is old enough and young enough to make a contribution. If we work together all will be well.”

Emphasizing his personal ties to the area, Wells noted that he is deeply rooted in the community. “I live in St. James, they are my friends and neighbors,” he said.

He closed his remarks on an optimistic note, telling supporters, “All is well with Owen Wells.”

The ratification marks the PLP’s formal introduction of its standard bearer in St. James, a constituency expected to draw significant attention as one of the newest electoral districts in New Providence.
