Accused gun smuggler charged

After a months-long investigation, the Anti-Gang and Firearms Unit charged an American with Bahamian citizenship with smuggling four guns and ammunition into the country.

Armani Thomas, 24, of Hallandale Beach, Florida, is accused of shipping four legally purchased firearms and 27 rounds of .40 ammunition to The Bahamas between 2020 and 2021.

Thomas, whose father is from Bimini, was arrested on the island last Friday.

Thomas pleaded not guilty to charges of importation of firearm and importation of ammunition at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

He was remanded to prison overnight and returns to court tomorrow for a bail hearing.
