Assistant Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles is rumored to be Prime Minister Philip Davis’ choice to replace Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander who resigned today amid a scandal that has further shaken public confidence in the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Davis said today he would meet with his choice for commissioner before he makes an announcement. Knowles was seen traveling to New Providence from Grand Bahama, where she is currently stationed, today.
If she is appointed, Knowles will become the country’s first female commissioner of police. She has served on the force for 33 years and has gained the respect of her colleagues in the Northern Bahamas.
