Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture Mario Bowleg announced on Tuesday that both Valley Boys Junkanoo groups will receive government seed funding ahead of the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day Junkanoo parades.
The decision comes as the group faces internal challenges over its leadership and future.
During a two-hour meeting on Sunday with senior Junkanoo officials, members of the Way Forward Valley Boys and the World Famous Valley Boys, led by Trevor Davis and Brian Adderley respectively, were unable to reconcile their differences.
This ongoing fracture within the Valley Boys has raised concerns about its potential impact on their performance in the upcoming senior parades.
Despite the discord, Bowleg’s announcement ensures that both of the Valley Boys groups will receive $30,000 in seed funding.
This financial support from the government aims to assist the groups in their preparations for Junkanoo season.
