Psychiatric evaluation for man who vandalized Columbus statue

A man who vandalized the statue of Christopher Columbus with a sledgehammer is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Chief Magistrate Joyann Fergsuon-Pratt won’t take a plea from Shervandaze Smith until she’s sure he’s fit to stand trial.

However, Smith insisted that he’s not crazy. He told the magistrate, “There’s nothing wrong with me.”

Smith said that he’s worked as a butler at Sandals and lived on his own in the U.S. until he was deported last December.

Nonetheless, Smith has been remanded into custody until November 15, pending the results of the mental tests.
