A 29-year-old man from Ross Corner is recovering in hospital after being shot by police during an altercation early Wednesday morning.

The incident, which unfolded amidst a series of violent events, has sparked community concern and a police investigation.

According to authorities, the chain of events began around 7:00 a.m. when a woman was targeted near Marlborough and West Bay Streets.

She was allegedly robbed of her handbag and physically assaulted by a man armed with a cutlass. The assailant swiftly fled the scene, prompting an urgent police response.

Responding officers swiftly mobilized, tracing the suspect to the vicinity of Baillou Hill Road and Lewis Street, where he was reportedly still wielding the cutlass.

Eyewitnesses say when confronted by officers, the suspect launched an aggressive attack against one of the officers, escalating the encounter.

Fearing for his safety, an officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect in the leg.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was called to the scene to provide medical attention to the wounded suspect. He was transported to the hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition under police custody.
