Eleuthera MP gets sweetheart’s cousin a govt job

Central and South Eleuthera MP Hank Johnson has used his influence to get his sweetheart’s first cousin hired at a government office on the island.

Luciano Thompson was recently hired by Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) to work at its office on Eleuthera.

The hire has angered Eleuthera residents as Thompson is an American citizen while dozens of Eleutherans are still unemployed but have been told there are no available government jobs on the island.

Three weeks after he was hired, Thompson reportedly travelled to the United States to collect his stimulus check.

Residents are questioning why Johnson would allow his girlfriend to persuade him to secure a job for a foreigner who can’t vote for him in the General Election which is rumored to be just around the corner.

While on the campaign trail in April 2017, Free National Movement Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis insisted the FNM will bring a new generation of leaders who “will not bow to foreigners” and always put Bahamians first. However, it seems he did not send that memo to Johnson.

This isn’t the first time Johnson’s love life has made him the subject of island fodder.

The FNM MP filed a formal complaint against his wife and her brother after he was beat up outside of his sweetheart’s home for abusing his wife.

Johnson tried to save face by declaring he is the “victim” but those on Eleuthera know better.
