Exuma residents are seeing red after a police officer shot and killed a man on the island Wednesday night.
Residents say an off-duty officer shot the young man in the back for smoking a bag of weed.
The off-duty Officer was seen with the gun in his hand trying to take the drugs out of the man’s hand as he lay bareback in a pool of blood on the ground.
Residents begged the man they called “Anderson” to put the man in his car and carry him to the clinic to be looked at before it was too late but Anderson was too busy trying to take the small baggie out of the man’s hand.
After the officer got the weed he put it in his pocket and put his gun back in the waist of his pants.
The man was transported to the Exuma medical facility to be treated.
Air Ambulance was summoned to transport the victim to New Providence.
While at the Exuma International Airport awaiting transport, sometime around 11:00 p.m., the victim succumbed to his injuries. The police officer who shot him has been relieved of his duties.
