Ex corrections officer jailed after smuggling drugs into prison

A corrupt corrections officer who tried to smuggle five ounces of marijuana into the prison has lost his job and his freedom.

Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt jailed 28-year-old Ivan Kristoff Forbes for seven months and ordered him to pay a $6,000 fine so he won’t spend another 12 months behind bars.

Forbes, an officer of six years, made a life-changing decision to take the drugs into the prison on Monday.

However, the drugs didn’t make it inside.

Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit found the five ounces inside Forbes’s jacket pocket when he arrived for his shift.

Later that day, the officers found 7 1/8 ounces in the trunk of Forbes’ Honda Accord. They found another 10 ½ ounces under the driver’s seat of his Nissan March.
