Shanendon Cartwright tests positive for covid-19

Updated: Nov 18, 2020

St. Barnabas MP Shanendon Cartwright has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently at home in mandatory quarantine.

Cartwright, who said he is asymptomatic, is the third member of parliament to test positive for the virus. He reportedly learned of his COVID status last week.

It is unclear how Cartwright contracted the virus. However, all members of parliament were asked to get tested for COVID-19 last week after two Parliamentary staff members tested positive for covid-19.

The first staffer to become infected had reportedly been in contact with every MP present in the House of Assembly two weeks ago.

Cartwright is the chairman of Bahamas Public Parks and Public Beaches Authority, which will be closed on Wednesday for deep cleaning and sanitizing.

However, worried employees have not been advised whether they have been identified as contacts.

The Managing Director is also reportedly in quarantine but tested negative for the virus.

Staff members are questioning who will pay for their COVID-19 tests as they may have been exposed to the virus by the Chairman

3,903 people have tested positive for COVID-19.
